Black Box Introduces New Family of SFP/QSFP Networking Active Optical Cables (AOC)

Posted by Press Release on Jun 24, 2020

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — June 24, 2020 — Black Box, a global information technology solutions provider, today introduced a new family of Networking Active Optical Cables (AOC) optimized for data center and edge network applications. Offering SFP+ 10Gbps, SFP28 25Gbps, QSFP+ 40Gbps, and QSFP28 100Gbps AOC products, Black Box addresses the increasing need for lower-cost, high-speed interconnectivity solutions that are flexible enough to be used in applications of one meter or hundreds of meters, while maintaining the premium performance required to support the always-on, connected world of today.

"To accommodate the rapidly rising demands of cloud services, media streaming, and big data storage, data centers and enterprise IT departments are upgrading their equipment from 10Gbps to 25Gbps, and from 40Gbps to 100Gbps," said David Muzinic, product manager at Black Box. "The features of our new Networking AOC family align perfectly with the requirements of both large, hyperscale data centers and smaller edge networks, providing high-performance interconnectivity for Ethernet, Infiniband, Fiber Channel applications, and more."

Capable of transmitting data over longer distances than Direct Attach Cables (DACs) with higher bandwidth support, the Black Box Networking AOCs allow connection of (Q)SFP network equipment across multiple racks, whereas DACs are limited for use primarily within a rack. With integrated SFP/QSFP transceivers, these all-in-one cable solutions significantly reduce the cost and complexity of fiber installs while forgoing the time-consuming and expensive testing required with modular transceivers.

Black Box AOCs are 100% compliant with their Cisco counterparts, cost-effectively connecting Cisco switches, servers, and routers. Constructed for full compliance with MSA industry standards, they also support non-Cisco equipment that does not require proprietary connectivity. Available in an array of lengths and speeds, Black Box Networking AOCs can be used for switch-server interconnectivity inside racks, between racks, and across multiple rooms. Because they are compatible with the Black Box Emerald® Unified KVM platform and MCX 4K network AV distribution and management system, Black Box Networking AOCs can be used to connect the transmitters of these KVM and AV-over-IP solutions to network switches.

InSync Technology to Offer Live Standards Conversion of UHD Video Streams in the Cloud

Posted by Press Release on Apr 7, 2020

PETERSFIELD, U.K. — April 7, 2020 — InSync Technology today announced that the company is augmenting its popular FrameFormer Link software standards conversion engine with support for motion compensated frame rate conversion of live video streams.

The new FrameFormer Link Live tool kit can be integrated into any live production automation or workflow management platform through its open API and can support live conversion of all formats up to and including UHD/4K. It can be deployed on premises or in any cloud environment and requires CPU-only processing, which is the optimum approach when instant availability of compute resources and scalability are key.

As broadcasters and service providers increasingly look to host live event production and distribution in the cloud, FrameFormer Link Live fills one of the few remaining gaps in terms of the content processing chain.

"We are bringing the unique ability to apply motion compensated frame rate conversion to live UHD streams in the cloud," said Daryl Blair, Marketing Director of InSync Technology Ltd. "This evolution of our popular FrameFormer software engine can be easily integrated into any customer, partner, or service providers' platform for the highest-quality conversions."

InSync Technology is currently working with a number of SaaS partners and expects the first availability of a cloud-based integrated service for live motion compensated frame rate conversion this summer.
